Dr Lorna Richards

Dr Lorna Richards is a highly experienced Consultant Adult Psychiatrist with nearly 30 years of experience across the NHS and private practice. She provides expert assessment and treatment for adults experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties, including depression, anxiety, stress and burnout, trauma-related conditions, eating disorders and complex emotional or psychiatric presentations. Dr Richards has extensive experience working with neurodivergent adults, including those with autism and ADHD, and tailors her assessment and treatment plans to each person's needs.
Patients value Dr Richards for her calm, thoughtful and thorough approach. She takes a holistic view of mental health, recognising the close relationship between emotional wellbeing, physical health, relationships, work and life experiences. Where appropriate, she works closely with psychologists, therapists, dietitians and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive integrated, personalised care.
Alongside her broad expertise in general adult psychiatry, Dr Richards is nationally recognised for her specialist work in eating disorders, having spent 14 years within one of London's leading specialist eating disorder services, including ten years leading the community service before becoming Clinical Lead. She has contributed to national policy and clinical standards through her work with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and NHS England, and contributes to public understanding of eating disorders through education and media.
Dr Richards completed her specialist psychiatric training at the Royal Free Hospital and South London and Maudsley Hospitals. She also holds a Master's degree in Medical Ethics and Law from King's College London.
An experienced educator and researcher, Dr Richards has supervised higher psychiatric trainees, lectured at University College London and contributed to research that has helped shape clinical practice in eating disorders. She also provides specialist second opinions and medico-legal assessments.
Whether patients are seeking support for a recent mental health difficulty, a longstanding condition, or a more complex presentation, Dr Richards offers experienced, evidence-based psychiatric care delivered with warmth, respect and clinical excellence.
