Debbie Toksvig

Debbie is a fully qualified psychotherapist with over 25 years of experience in clinical
practice. She is accredited with the UKCP and BACP and as a qualified clinical supervisor,
also offers clinical supervision to other psychotherapists. Debbie worked for many years in
an NHS psychotherapy department in East London before managing the counselling service
in a large GP practice in South London. She has been the lead therapist for several mental
health charities, worked at The Priory Hospital, The Tavistock Relationships Clinic and in
private practice.
Working with both individuals and couples, Debbie offers psychotherapy in a safe and
confidential environment, providing non-judgemental support to help clients explore the
concerns which have led them to seek help. She has worked with a wide range of issues
and with clients from all walks of life.
Debbie has extensive experience working with LGBTQI+ clients and understand how the
unique pressures which are often experienced can place individuals and relationships under
enormous stress. She has also spent many years working with people in the entertainment
industry and in high profile positions. This work has ranged from stress management to
addiction issues and the problems associated with living under public scrutiny. Debbie is a
discrete practitioner, and her warm and empathic approach allows clients the opportunity
to explore their concerns with the freedom to be themselves.
Debbie’s qualifications are in both integrative and psychodynamic psychotherapy, and she
combines the two approaches in her work. Sometimes early experiences can have a
powerful effect on shaping our view of the world as we develop and become adults. We can
feel trapped by long held beliefs which may be unhelpful and lead to negative and repetitive
feelings and behaviours. We can also be affected by current situations, events and
relationships. Considering past experiences alongside present problems often helps to bring
into focus how difficulties have arisen. Reflecting on these issues can help to re-assess the
present and approach the future in a more optimistic manner.
